One of the movement?s maestros was Chet Helms (1942-2005), whose Avalon Ballroom hosted Jefferson Airplane, the Doors, the Grateful Dead, and countless other legendary rockers. Helms commissioned concert posters from local artists whose style mirrored the acid-tinged counterculture.
